The OG soundtrack is still irreplaceable for me, but it's not like the OG is going anywhere and the Remake is a joy to listen to as well.On this week's episode of The Game Informer Show, we discuss a handful of the games we've been digging recently, including Outriders, Nier Replicant Ver.1.22474487139…, Lost Words: Beyond the Page, Oddworld: Soulstorm, Sea of Thieves, and Cozy Grove. Personally, I would place the Remake's soundtrack above Automata's, but that's because I simply like Gestalt & Replicant's material a lot more.

However, whoever mixed and edited the music for the official soundtrack release should be punched and fired. There are some misses, but most of them are good. Overall thoughts - the composer team did a great job translating the music of the original into live orchestra while still keeping its desolate and tragic atmosphere. However, I wish they used the original harmony of the chorus at least once during the track. I like the new, slightly jazzier harmonies, as well as the use of bells and pizzicato strings in the latter half of the track. NieR Gestalt & Replicant Original Soundtrack. Gods Bound by Rules is one track that stands out, having been completely rearranged and reharmonized. NieR:Automata Original Soundtrack PERSONA3 Original Soundtrack.

Those sections are usually good and develop the original material without feeling tacked on or extraneous. Most tracks also had new segments and phrases added to them beyond the new orchestrations. The Remake basically fixed those tracks for me, while also giving me new appreciation for them. Also, some tracks in the OG were so completely drowned in loud banging drums that they were completely unbearable (looking at you - Shadowlord's Castle / Roar). The orchestrations themselves are very competent, with the strings usually supplying sweeping and emotional countermelodies to the vocals, while quick bursts of brass add color and tension to the arrangements. This has pros and cons: on one hand it takes away from the more intimate/acoustic feel of the OG and makes some action tracks lose impact, but on the other hand it helps the richer live orchestra sound of the remake shine, and allows the melodic content to breathe more. The most noticeable change is that they replaced the booming very loud tribal percussion of the OG with more generic hollywood action drums like Automata's. Some examples are Cold Steel Coffin starting with the orchestral layer rather than just the chanting, and the distorted male vocals in The Wretched Automatons being awfully quiet compared to the electrical piano and strings.Īs for the tracks themselves, it's a 50-50. I'm 90% certain they gave the different layers to some intern who slapped them on audacity in the laziest way possible. First of all, I have to note that while there's a lot of good material in the new OST, the mixing and editing is absolutely horrendous. After listening to the Remake's soundtrack, I gathered some thoughts about it.
