This article gives you some history on battery use in old radios and advice on how to power them with modern batteries. With its features enabled it would be very quiet again, with the features off the sound was just not that good. The strict definition of a dipole speaker is a speaker enclosure in which the speaker radiates or projects sound forward, and the reverse polar response is 180 degrees out of phase. These include tube portables, such as the Zenith model K-401 shown below, and 'farm' radios, which were used in rural areas where there was no other source of electrical power. When it comes to spoken podcasts the Jambox just could not cut it.

The biggest reasons for me as to why I chose the Boombox over the Jambox are the following:Having used a Jambox I ran into various issues with maintaining a connection between it and my iPhone I have yet to encounter this issue with the Boombox. The Jawbox has a noticeable hiss when not playing anything the Boombox does not.The Jawbox can be great for playing music with all its features enabled (when the connection is not being dropped), but when turned them off the sound quality plummets considerably. The Logitech UE Boom has some serious tricks up its sleeve, with 360-degree sound, Bluetooth and NFC capabilities, a massive battery, two-year warranty, and some kick ass audio. After doing a little bit of research I ended up buying Logitech's UE Mobile Boombox. If you consider yourself an audiophile you will most likely find fault with the sound quality, but for an average user it sounds fine. I was looking for an inexpensive wireless speaker with a little bit of expendability while still having decent sound quality in addition to being loud.
